Switching is easier than you think

Most people put off changing pharmacy because they expect paperwork and an awkward phone call. There is neither.

  1. You send us a few details. Your name, phone number, the pharmacy you are with now, and the medications you want moved.
  2. We contact them. Pharmacy to pharmacy, the way it is meant to work. You are not involved.
  3. We confirm with you. Usually within one business day, and your next refill comes from us.

Nothing is interrupted. Your remaining refills come with you, your medication list comes with you, and if you are mid-cycle on a blister pack we coordinate the timing so you never run short.

Why people move their prescriptions to an independent pharmacy

Burnaby has no shortage of pharmacies. What it has fewer of is pharmacies where the same person is behind the counter every time you come in.

  • You deal with the pharmacist, not a queue. Questions get answered properly, not in the thirty seconds between two other patients.
  • Shorter waits. A smaller dispensary means your prescription is not sitting behind a backlog.
  • Packaging that suits you. If you or a family member take several medications a day, we will set up blister packs and keep them synchronised.
  • Delivery when you need it. Free across Burnaby, which matters more than people expect after surgery or during a bad week.
  • English and Farsi. Medication instructions are hard enough in your first language.

Common questions

Is there a fee to transfer my prescriptions?

No. Transferring your prescriptions to NovaMed Pharmacy is free.

Do I have to tell my current pharmacy I am leaving?

No. We contact them directly and handle the request. You do not need to have that conversation.

How long does a pharmacy transfer take in BC?

Usually one business day. We confirm with you once your prescriptions and remaining refills are with us.

Will I lose my remaining refills?

No. Your remaining refills transfer with your prescriptions. Nothing is lost and nothing is interrupted.

Can I transfer only some of my medications?

Yes. Tell us which ones and we will move only those. Many people start with one or two and move the rest later.

Can I transfer prescriptions for a family member?

You can start the request on their behalf, but we will confirm directly with the patient, or with the person who holds legal authority to act for them, before the transfer goes through.
